Hi guys,

Yesterday some guy forgot to put on his handbrake when he parked up to go to countrywide. His car rolled forward about 6-8 feet into the back of my car. He also left his kid in the car. whether the kid had anything to do with it or not i have no idea i can only guess. Fortunately it was witnessed by a PCSO and an incident was logged. She said it was up to us to sort things out between us. After a quick chat we decided i would get some quotes and if it wasnt too expensive he would pay for the damage to be repaired, if it was then we would go through the insurance.

I have been to a couple of places today toget a quote. The first garage said they would send me a quote in the week and counldnt put a guess at how much it would cost. The second garage are going to do the same but i asked if he could guess what it may cost to fix. He seemed to think about £700. There really isnt much damage there but if it does end up going through the insurance which im pretty sure it will, with £700 worth of work i pretty certain it will be written off. I would guess the car is worth about 500-750 from the research i have done.

Mechanical stuff I can fix no problem but bodywork i am hopeless with. what do you guys think it is going to cost? what would happen if the insurance wrote it off? There really isn't much damage how can that be £700 worth? and yes I know she needs a wash...

Right had a look and the boot floor looks fine, there is no evidence of an impact, i had the light cluster out yesterday and that all looked as it should. its literally just that small dent and the bumper.

I reckon a smart repairer could sort that for about £350 to £400 but obviously get quotes

That is the sort of figures I was personally thinking, I have two quotes coming I may just visit a few more places and see what they say.

Yes, not only is it cheap to run tax and insure all of the running gear shocks rear axel brakes bearing you name it has been replaced. Just put a lot into it to keep it going.

New bumper for £40, misc mountings etc £20, plus banging that dent out and respraying where the paint has gone. Don't think that panel is particularly easy to get at to get the dents out, so I'd say c. £400 for the lot including the paint repair and the labour and garage profit. But in all honesty if the other guy is willing to pay you could repair the bumper yourself for about £80 (make him pay you a bit for your time at least hey?) and then looking at c.£225 for the dents and paint.

You can still run the car with the damage....but if somebody else is paying then there's nothing to worry about.

They guy is willing to pay providing it's not too expensive, when the guy said £700 I couldn't believe it, seems an awe full lot for a small dent

The issue is where the dent is, doesn't matter how big it is really. It'll need filling and blowing in, most companies will ramp up the price if it's an insurance job.
