So just changed a bad front passenger wheel bearing, had the new bearing pressed in... Put it all back together and after 2 miles the bloody things is humming! Now I didn't have a torque wrench/ratchet so just done the thing up pretty tight. Could this be the problem, have I done over tightened the hub nut? Or have a purchased a dodgy bearing?
Also upon removing the control arm from the hub housing the drive shaft slipped out a fraction and leaked a small amount of tranny oil. Could it be the transmission making this noise? The noise is speed dependant obviously and still there when in neutral and free rolling. Really doubt it is the tranny but thought I would ask don't think enough came out to make a noise like this I would assume it would have to be nearly dry?

You sure it isn't the drivers side bearing you can hear?

Yea it's defo passenger side. Not sure if I've over tightened the bolt and worn the bearing out again lol. Or maybe it's the drive shaft? Working at the moment so can't check.

Might be worth getting a garage to check the new bearing, but it could be the CV joint.

Jack front side up, start engine, put in 5th gear and listen  Also play in wheel could suggest knackered bearing

1) Was the bearing pressed in correctly?
2) What make of bearing is it?
Good quality brands are: SKF, F A G, Koyo or Timkin.

Do you have a run flat tyre on it as these make the exact same noise when flat but because they are run flats they appear to be pumped up!

Turns out the hub nut wasn't done up tight enough. Sounds strange but the car sounds alot deeper and nicer now maybe the wheel bearing was drowning the exhaust noise? will be doing a tranny oil change this week as some leaked out during the change. could this make the car sound deeper? like i said previously not alot came out, just want to make sure its not a tell tale sign that the transmission is low on oil?
