It will be coincidence that functions are working again now that you have disturbed some bad wiring along the way, which will go bad again soon, as in the speed sensor. Might be worth removing the speed sensor housing to inspect the plastic drive gear inside, its pretty cheap to replace.
By housing I mean the metal housing that fits around the driveshaft held on by 3 10/11mm bolts, make sure you drain the oil first!
A non working speed sensor will throw up abs fault, airbag fault, non working roof if its a convertible, and even an aircon fault as they are all dependant on its data to determine how to operate correctly.
It will also make the interior light flash as you drive if its set to come on when you open the doors.
So if you have none of the above (presuming you have any of the above options) the fault may lie elsewhere

Hi Clifford, i have the same problem engine cutting out. Can u please let me know what VSS is and where is it located so i can get it cleaned. thanks.
