Hi all, so just made an account to ask this, not too clued up on cars , this is my first one and noticed a few problems with it.
Its a 1.4 petrol, 2004.
It was fine the week I got it, no problems at all, worked a charm, then suddenly it just started.... cutting out?
It usually happens when im in 2nd-3rd gear , I can tell when it wants to cut out because it starts struggling, white smoke comes out the exhaust, then just totally cuts out, power steering goes, the engine and battery light come on, and it just stops.
It usually comes back on after a couple of seconds of trying, its never not started again, and usually then there's a lot of white smoke coming out the exhaust again, then its fine again?
It doesnt always do it, sometimes i can go through all gears and it works just fine, other times, when i go to 3rd-4th is usually when it knocks out, but if i drop back into second gear, most times I can stop it from cutting itself out.
Got someone looking at it just now, but I have seen thats there's been similar problems just by doing a search, also checked oil and all that and again everything fine, it just started doing it out the blue about a week and a half after i was driving it, owner that had it before regularly drove it, no dents rust or anything that I can see.......
Also it cuts out whether the engine is cold or not.
Any info would be great, I couldnt find a post with all these things in it so decided to start my own, sorry if there's already a post like this!
An error code did come up , P02 P2 (unsure which, I know I should really know but iv forgotten the error code he said, said it could be the spark plugs, fuel injectors, that error code?)
Im just really worried about driving it, not long passed my test and I do a lot of long distance journeys and obviously cant have a car just randomly cutting out, a few times iv nearly had someone go right into the back of me

Could be a lot of things- by struggling do you mean it misfires? Could be something along the fuel line like the petrol filter or the actual pump.

It doesnt misfire no, when I change a gear I can feel it start "chugging" and the smoke starts coming out, if i catch it in enough time and change the gear, it starts running normal again with no smoke, but it does start to loose power, it feels as thought there's something pushing back on the accelerate, i assume this is just the power steering going.

Get the codes checked again ... Without that ypu are guessing and could be swapping out the wrong parts.
My only experiences of loosing power on the Pugs was a collapsed cat on the HDi and a failing coilpack on the 2.0.
