Hello,

My 1.4 peugeot 206 has decided to kinda pack in on me. It starts and idles (bit rough) and I'm able to just about pull off in 1st gear but when it comes to changing into second it really really struggles! it does'not stall or anything but is so rough jerking loads. As i said it was fine then all of a sudden starts to judder and now cant accelerate.

any ideas?

clutch maybe? although ive had this done not so much recently but in the past 4 years ha ha.

onSounds like it's firing on three cylinders.

I was thinking that too but my mate said it sounded clutchy. I do have a oil leak from the head gasket and its one of those where the hell is it coming from. It could have fouled the plugs maybe?

Thanks for the reassurance i had that idea already in mind so will give it a go after xmas when i actually have some money Smile

Changed the spark plugs and it was so hard to start but it started. Didn't like that too much so removed the spark plugs and noticed they were slightly different from the originals . So ordered some more from ECP. Put them in which helped a little but not much. Removed them to find them all black and sooty. So I've ordered a new coil pack and going to order yet more spark plugs. Haynes manual says carbon fouling? Could this be from the hard start first time around? There was also excessive smoke from the exhaust; not loads but more than usual.

Also am I able to re-use the fouled plugs or just get some more?

My car sounds similar to a tractor at the moment ha ha

Sounds like an overfuelling issue. This is a great sign as if they were wet and covered in fuel then you could say they weren't firing

You're chucking a lot of money at the car without checking for faults you know are already there.
Headgasket oil leak. What are the compressions on the cylinders?

Are there any codes stored on the ECU that haven't triggered the EML?

Just clean them ... brass spark plug brush.

How do you mean by "they don't look the same"?

If the eml light is on it is telling you there is something faulty ... get the codes read and target that rather than guessing and buying random parts.

There's no lights popping up. As I mentioned the car starts fine but then struggles but still continues to idle fine now just when I put my foot down it sounds terrible. The black soot on the plugs only appeared when I first change the plugs and it took ages to kick in. I'm just starting off with the basics really as one original spark plug was fouled with oil. I do have a leak coming from the gasket seal of the head gasket too. At the mo spending £30 to see if it helps is the only option as it's Jan and taking it into the garage with no money ain't on the table right now Sad

With the vacuum leak I can't say there is one as the engine sounds fine no loud hissing noises or anything. I might follow the Haynes and try cleaning the carburetor and see if that helps. Lack of funds is really restricting me at the moment.

You don't have a carburetor, it's fuel injection

Ha ha that might be difficult then :). I mean the part above the spark plugs. Also just to point out that I had no problems with starting the car since removing the coil pack and plugs . The problem I had was that the car wouldn't accelerate I could pull off slowly but as soon as I put my foot down it struggled. All the latest problem have arose since changing the plugs.

Could the lambda sensor be at fault too? Causing a rich mixture? Also exhaust has a slight blow around the cat box? Could that do anything?

Erm that's the point of asking on here to fault find what do you want the complete life story of my car? If your not going to help don't bother moaning. I'm simply looking good at the options I ain't no mechanic and the exhaust is not even a year old and can't see how a leak after the cat can cause plugs to fail considering the lambda is before it. So go off to someone else willing to basically solve the problem so that you can have your little say thinking you've helped. I come for help not abuse!! When people are suggesting things I'm looking to see if I have that issue. Thanks for again reminding me that their are people like you on here hence why I hate using it.

And I'm not wasting people's time I'd prefer to have a convo on here with friendly people's advice and tips rather than paying out money for a garage to fault find and charge me through the roof
