First post. I have read tonnes of topics and just need a little advice please.

I may have given too much information (sorry, I'm not sure what's relevant)

I have a 206, 1.4, 55 plate, 8v, 80,700 miles

It was serviced in June last year (16), Cat replaced in August after it fell off whilst driving, I had that replaced at home. Once it was replaced the engine management light came on. MOT November, passed the emissions test, engine management light still on.

Recently, in the past few months I have noticed a lag in acceleration. Mainly noticeable on changing gears. However, when the car had warmed up (after running for 5-10 minutes). in the last couple of weeks i'd noticed that on top of this I was losing power sitting in traffic (revs dropped and felt like it was about to stall, although it didnt) and getting the car started was a problem. Starting up would take a few attempts and erratic revs.

Took it to a garage for diagnostics which showed the O2 sensor was shorting. The mechanic informed me that this may be the cause for the poor acceleration. Had a new sensor fitted. Management light went off. Absolutely no change.

Problems continued.

On researching I found that it may be the throttle body. Changed this at home.

No change.

Took it back to the garage. They plugged it in again, no codes come up. They couldn't see any leaks, no oil in water.

Few days later and now it really struggles to start, although once warm its ok and there's white smoke from the exhaust.

I don't know what to do. I'm reluctant to take it back to the same garage as they can't find anything after having it all day. But at the same time Im worried about taking it somewhere new for them to rip me off.

Any replies are greatly received!

Sorry forgot to say, when I took it back to the garage they changed the ECT sensor.

Would a 55 plate have a motorised throttle body?

My old 55 plate 1.4 had a throttle cable and wasn't motorised.

White smoke may not be anything to worry about. That is often just water-vapour and you get it on cold mornings as the exhaust heats up. Some cars are worst than others at pumping that out.

Bobba: You don't say where you are in the world .. may help others to suggest a better mechanic that the "throw new parts, and your money, at it and hope it goes away!"

What was done (or at least what were you charged for) on the last service? Same garage?

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

Thanks for your replies.

I got to work on Friday turned the car off. Went back out at lunchtime tried to start it to be met with an awful sound.

Had to be towed home. The RAC confirmed that the engine is hydro locked due to the blown head gasket.

Not too sure what to do with it now.

I'm in the west midlands

OR

Exchange the complete donkey for a good running one.
