Has anybody used a Gates timing belt kit? going to get the belt done in a few months on my 2.0 HDi. What is the recommended interval for belt change. I spoke to a peugeot dealer a couple of years back and they said 90K.

Gates should be fine as are ContiBelt (Continental)
I think it's ten years or 90K ... which ever comes sooner although I'd be reluctant to leave one that long (I've had a cambelt fail ... or should I say the tensioner seized ... and it isn't pretty or cheap to fix!)

Hi Gazza82, thanks for that. It's just coming up to 78K. dosnt do a lot of milage and has an easy life. Do all the servicing/brakes etc myself, but I will leave the belt to my local garage (mates rates)

Gates more often than not are the OE suppliers to Peugeot, i've pulled off factory belts badged up as Gates, and even gone into the parts counter at a main dealer and been given a Gates belt complete in Gates packaging over the counter.
Pretty easy to do a belt on the 2l HDi found in the 206. Few hours work at most really.

Do you not need a special tension measuring tool to do the belt on the 2.0HDI?

The SEEM tool?
Most likely found covered in a layer of dust at your local Peugeot / Citroen main dealer workshop.

The twist test is perfectly fine for most timing belts.
