Hello, folks. This could be a short love affair. My better half has a 2003 206 HDI 3 door. It developed a horrible rear end vibration which has been traced by a mechanic pal to a kn4ckered torsion bar bearing - bad enough that the inside of the tyre had actually been rubbing on the inner wing....My mate said it's a sod of a job, so I suspect I won't want to get involved with it in my drive and a professional repair sounds pricey.
I suspect that this could be the death of the car - 2 years ago she was only offered £500 trade in against something else and she's thinking of replacing the car later this year anyway
I'm sure that this has previously been done to death within this forum but to save me digging deep, can someone offer a quick idea of A) How difficult is it? B) Is it really worth doing, in the circumstances? C) Any other info that may help me think which way to go.
Appreciate anyone's thoughts, thanks.

Get a service / exchange rear beam OR good used rear beam.
By the time you notice the bearings have failed, the damage to the stub axles is beyond repair & would require new stub pins pressing in.
Fitting new bearings to a worn / damaged stub axle pin is a waste of time, the bearings wont last long.

Looks like AxleDirect have shut down so IM Axles might be the only refurbishing company left.
We got one for our old CC from AxleDirect for £225 exchange plus it needed a new wheel bearing on one side when the old one spread itself over the workshop floor! .. I had it fitted at a local garage as I didn't have the time so that was a couple of hours labour.
We sold the car about 4 months later though so can't comment on quality ..

Thanks both for your observations. Sounds like it could well be a £500 job, whatever. I doubt the car is worth the expense. Shame, it's a happy little workhorse!

Not a lot of people know this, and I found out from my garage friend, but Euro Car Parts now sell refurbed axles. https://www.eurocarparts.com/rear-axle
It's a bit of an outlay at the start, as they're around £339 + £90 deposit (until you take your old axle in), but they're easy enough to remove and fit yourself (although an extra pair of hands might be needed on occasion!)
Of course ECP are always throwing out discount codes, so right now you can get £112.20 discount on that price.
PS If you know anyone in the trade, when I asked about prices a few months back when I was told about this, I was told they can be picked up for £120 + the surcharge.
