Hey all, i have a question I'm hoping you can help me with. I'd like to add a dashcam to old Lizzie, as the courts are more and more willing to accept this as evidence if the worst come to the worst. However, i REALLY hate cables dangling all over the place, so would like to wire it in full-time. Below the rear view mirror is a black box with a fairly fat cable running into it. I'm assuming this box is for the auto wipers and lights.
So my question is...how can i remove this box and also, will there be a power supply line that i could tap into in order to power a dash cam?
Any help as always greatly appreciated!

I fitted one to my BRZ and just carefully pushed the wire from the power feed up behind the headlining .. then removed the side panels near the screen and completed the job.
Neither of our 206s had that black box so can't help there ..

The mirror just slides down out through the narrower part of the black box:
Don't force it, try to wiggle it off, maybe a dollop of WD40 would come handy.
Wooden/plastic/rubber chisel and hammer setup could work well too.
I bought the 180 with it completely fallen off, together with the metal bracket that glues to the glass, so be aware of that.
Then it's only a multimeter away to find a live wire, doublechecking that wipers and lights are still happy with the voltage drop.

So just to confirm, the box itself is simply glued to the windscreen?

The blackbox is not glued, it just slides over a metal bracket and becomes harder to remove overtime due to oxidation.
It's only that metal bracket that is glued to the glass (see my photo just above the text "So MOT passed with flying colour numbers" in this thread: 206info.co.uk/Forums/v...64994.html )

Top tip - try not to detach the metal clip from the windscreen as its a right b*****d to glue back on successfully even for windscreen fitters.

Thanks Sim, that photo made things much clearer. Also, cheers for the tip MrBSI, i'll do my best to leave the clip intact. Sim...I don't suppose while you were fiddling about under the box you put a meter on those wires to see a voltage did you??!!

If nothing in the box, the interior light isn't too far away, and on a multiplexed 206 it gets. IIRC (car not with me at the moment, so can't verify), keyed +12V (for the manual ON switch setting), BSI controlled +12V (to turn on on unlocking, remain on until BSI shuts down, follow the doors open/close, be able to fade out, and blink if driving with the a door not fully closed), and ground.
If nothing else, it's easy to run a wire up along the A pillar (loosen the door seal along it) and tuck it in undet the roof lining along the seam between the lining and the windshield rubber surround.
I've got the 12->5V adapter )ripped the guts out of the cig.plug adaptor and placed them in a smaller plastic project box) tucked into the dash inside the cavity covered by the lid where the dash meets the door (had a few switches mounted in the lid for other stuff, so had switched12V there already) and ran the mini USB terminated wire up to behind the rearview mirror.

I've checked the pins to the sensor, the rightmost (green) wire is battery live (switches off ~20secs after key is out with a relay click). All is wired on 10A fuse together with many other auxiliaries, I'd test drive around to ensure things are happy and risk free.
Earth is what appears as the green/yellow wire (2nd from left).
