Hey guys,

I am starting a track car project which will also be commuting for a while and would like some pointers if anyone got the answers.

So, I already got a 206 GTi from 99 which some drunk guy rear ended it and the chassis is done. I decided with some mates, to get a crappy 1.4 8v (was cheap, don't judge me Razz ) and turn it into track car powered by my 2.0L engine.

Before starting striping the 1.4 of all the crap though, one question remains unanswered. Is the 1.4 chassis the same as the 2.0L? From a quick look I had everything seems to be the same but I wonder if the 2.0L had anything extra for structural rigidity and strength. I don't plan on using any roll bar cage yet so it would be nice to know if there are any differences I should be aware off.

Body shell is probably the same but there will be differences with a/r bar thicknesses, front arms have metalastic bushes and I think it has some extra bars at the rear.

Remember also your gti is pre-mux so depending on the 1.4's age the wiring loom will be different too ... but as you're tracking it you will probably dump most of it.

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

I see. Well I was aware of the differences in the sub frame and rear bars, but I was concerned about the shell. After all I am planing to change those as well. The plan is to drop down the engine with the subframe all together and slide it to the 1.4 shell. Rear end, I am looking for an RC one or a GTi depending on which one I'll find cause mine was bent in the crash.

Wiring loom Im on pre-mux on both cars. The 1.4 is the oldest one from 98 but I don't care that much about it. Will keep the 2.0L stuff, just transfer it from one car to another. Too many cables though and it's going to be a pain in the @$$. Also still debating if I'm going to keep the clima or not. Reason being, I do plan to commute a bit with the car and one of the tracks I visit is roughly 300 km from my place. Given the fact I am living in Greece (yeah don't ask, that's what you get with a Greek fiance) it can be quite the challenge to survive without an AC.

Just got back from Kefalonia and we would have died without A/C in the rental.

Have you considered how you would get back the 300km should the worst happen on the track and you bend it?

Yeah, road assistance, won't be the first time if leaving with a wrecked car from there.
