Hey guys,
A mate has a 1.4 Hdi that cut out and wouldn't start
it was then driven with no issue to a parking spot
now when started it will start perfectly but then after 10 seconds the oil lamp comes on, the engine continues to run
Hes worried to drive it just in case there's something wrong?
Just wondering if there could be any common issues anyone knows about?
Many thanks

Low oil? Faulty oil pressure or level sensor(s)?
Checked the oil level with the dipstick (when engine is cold)?

the oil was at the correct level hot or cold
an oil change has just been carried out and the dash light doesn't come on anymore, allegedly there were some metal particles on the magnetic sump plug.
potentially the oil hasn't been changed for 2 intervals thanks to a non trustworthy garage
engine still seems to pull well?
didn't realise engine oil plugs were magnetic, is this bs?

My 1.6 had a magnetic plug, but it wasn't necessarily an OEM one.

Don't forget the 1.4Hdi is a different engine .. shared with Ford and others .. some engines may have a magnetic sump plug, most don't!
I've had my 1.4 HDI since it was 1 year old and it had a new engine in the first year (Warranty! Head gasket failed on the first owner after only 300 miles!). I've never had the sump plug replaced.

Very Interesting, the vehicle is running well now.
It has almost 190k on the clock, though saying that we used to have an 04 plate HDI that had around 325k and was only scrapped because of a knackered back axle and cambelt due. So hopefully the engine isn't about to brick it.
I will be cautious of this garage however at least they actually change the oil when asked too!
thanks guys have a good Christmas!

Usually a faulty or bad oil filter can cause the oil light to come on.
