Hi all,

Hoping for some help.

Plugged my 2002 1.4 into a obd2 scanner and its coming up with coolant sensor fault.

Am I correct in assuming this is the green sensor in the top of the thermostat housing? I spoke to a chap at my local Citroen garage and he said there should be a second sensor but I'm not entirely sure he was right because I cant find anything anywhere other than this green sensor.

so my two questions are, 1. will changing the sensor in the thermostat housing make the fault code go away and 2. if there is a second sensor, where is it?? because I'm stumped.

cheers in advance!

Change that green sensor.

Older Peugeot / Citroen stuff used to have up to 3 different coolant temp sensors fitted.

Thanks for the advise. that's great!

Sorry to sound like a complete novice but is there any negatives to not having the sensor replaced?

I haven't long brought the car and believe this may be a long standing issue Confused

if it isn't working properly it will not warn you if overheating, and may not kick the cooling fan on, and it could make the ecu think it's not getting warm, in which case you will be burning extra fuel.

On mine it would warn me it was overheating .. when it wasn't near getting warm let alone hot!

These coolant sensors have to be really faulty to throw a fault code / put the diagnostic warning light in.

You can have issues starting the car or it using excess fuel when the sensor isnt working correctly.

The sensor is easily replaced when the cooling system is totally cold.

Okay cool, thank you for the advise.

The whole thing is kinda odd because from what I can see the temperature gauge is "working correctly".

The temperature gauge goes up and down as it should and when I disconnect the sensor all together I get the stop light and the fan going like the clappers so in my mind its working correctly... but the fault code is confusing / troubling.

I suppose I should change it regardless and see if that clears the fault.

On a diesel the faulty sensor decreased MPG and the engine would judder in pulses, even when gauges show correct values.

Here's the related thread: www.206info.co.uk/Foru...tml#585120

There you can also find how sensor pins resistance measurements were off for the faulty one (your ones will likely differ as it's a petrol).

Hi all, apologies.

I replaced the green coolant sensor on the thermostat housing and now the code is gone.
