Just a quick update..... We have just walked the test venue and should be able to set up a nice stage for testing, I am going to make up some pace notes so anyone who fancies a go in the co-drivers seat can have a go at reading their way round a stage.... should be fun Shocked

We are waiting on confirmation from the landowner that he is not double booked and the gearbox to arrive back in time for it to all take place... As for numbers... can you add your name to the list if you want to come along for a look on the "Test Day" thread.... thanks

How far away are you with the build..... Mine ended up taking 2 years in reality.... and I am always tweaking bits I think I can improve on , hence testing

Good point.... I have big springs on the front and custom Gaz dampers, May be why my rear dont lift

If the rear isn't sliding though then there's nothing to gain from putting the wheel back onto the tarmac!

I've not touched mine for near on 6 months now due to moving house and trying to get money together to buy my newborn the stuff it needs.

The cars at my parents house which is 20 mile away from where i live now so im trying to get the car moved up to my partners mums house and im going to keep it there so i can work on it every sunday. Got the majority of the parts needed now need to buy a few other things but most of it is stored ready to go.

Update... We had a mixed day testing, Started out on Toyo R888 tyres and did a few laps to warm them up....
 

 

 

 


We recorded a time of 1min 51seconds. First thing that became obvoius was the steering geometry was miles out after Brands Hatch tarmac. I decided to stop and alter the front toe-in by 1/2 a turn on the tracking and try again. This was a marginal improvement and resulted in a quicker stage time, 1 min 48 seconds. Once I had got use to the stage and we could eliminate the "Experience" factor we started to get results to within a second a lap. 1 min 46 seconds.

Then we had a little off when I tried to push harder on a section round some earth mounds which were starting to clean up. I hit the mound on the F/N/S forcing the fan onto the radiator..... exit all the water Crying or Very sad
We removed the radiator which takes only 3 minutes on this car as we have modified it. The damage was right at the bottom of the core where the rad had bent and popped two of the cores from the bottom plate. Janine came to the rescue with the idea of putting some 2 pack epoxy resin on the damage. While she was off home to get the resin we cleaned up the area and "scratched" it up to give the epoxy something to key onto. Suffice to say we got the resin on and it seemed fine to go again, so we refitted the rad, filled it up with the finest spring water and it held for the duration.
We switched over to gravel tyres at this interval as there was a lot of loose on the concrete, we worked out that with the semi-slicks on it was like running on marbles where as the gravel tyres would bite in more and find the concrete. We also added another turn to the toe-in, making it one and a half turns in total.... I will put the guages on them today to find out the actual reading.
Back on the stages we pushed on with the timings and I noticed a vast improvement in the steering, It has become obvious that a 300mm steering wheel is too small, I need to bring it 50mm closer and have at least a 350mm diameter as it will give a little extra leverage in tight hairpins. The times were still around 1 min 45 seconds but it was not as tiring on the arms to get round the stage.
 

 

 

 

 


I took my youngest daughter round for a stage. My co-driver is 16 stone at the moment and my daughter is 6 stone 12 lbs...... result!... 1 min 41 seconds.. 4 seconds faster Laughing and she managed to record herself on her video phone for the whole stage.... good girl!!
We gained some damage on the day which adds up to:- A radiator, right-hand engine mount, a small dent O/S/R a bit of crazing in the laquer on the front bumber, and we destroyed a new set of gravel tyres.
All in all a good days testing, we have learnt a lot. A big thanks to John (Seabrook) for coming down... look forward to his pictures... Hope you enjoyed your hot lap Thumb Up and the BBQ after....

Would a normal front bumper be less likely to hit things???
