Went to dealers for mot today, passed with no advisories. But as with one of my previous threads, on a cold startup the car goes to nearly 2000 revs, takes about 5 to 10 seconds to settle (an does so in steps) and some times will judders when in idle and as i reverse off the drive, but by the time the engine warms as i get in 1st and go, its fine. The revs in idle will then waver around a little from time to time at the lights, no cutting out touch wood but I thought i would ask dealership about it.

Apparantly i need to have it looked at by the end of my oroginal warranty (less than 2 weeks) otherwise even with my extended warranty I will have to pay £70 for them to just have a look at it.

Should I try and get it in before my warranty ends or should I try clean the idle control valve myself? If so, how?

Thanks

Oh and in my opinion id clean the map sensor by removing it from the inlet plenum and then to clean the icv id get the car ticking over and spray a can of carb cleaner doen the throttle body.Remove the air box and piping first though! lol and also have someone rev the engine a little when spraying it as its non combustible so the engine will bog down and stall.

Im just a little worried of it being an expensive part to replace, and with that being a free fix they would do a bodge job to ensure i go back to have it done again where in that instance i would have to pay

a 500ml can will be fine and if they replace the part and it goes wrong again then im pretty sure the work they do will have a warrantee on it too.

I would 'mark' the ICV then ask them to definately replace it as it
can and will go faulty again if simply cleaned.
Then check that its been changed by looking for the mark.

Jus' sayin.

Thanks for the replies, the marker thing on the icv sounds a good idea as I've just booked it in

They will know what to do more than me but it would be definately be worth checking its been changed Razz They are gunna try and replicate the cold start problem, but I bet you anything it will behave when they try! Maybe I'm being a hypercondriac but I'm quite sure the rev needle shouldn't waver or flicker at all when in idle, and shouldnt take ages to settle down when started up, thought I'd get it seen too as I don't want to be reading no P030X fault codes any time soon, specially not when it has only done 18k
