Hi people. I'm hoping to buy a 206 2.0 hdi soon. I've got about £2500-3000 to spend. Knowing what kind of age/condition car this will get, what things should i look out for? i've never had an older higher mileage car before. Also where to look other than autotrader or ebay? If anyone can point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Try pistonheads.co.uk... But I found mine on Autotrader. You should get one about 03 plate/about 60000-80000 miles... So that's not bad. You need to see if it's had it's cambelt done, or if it's due to be done. Also check the exhaust & ball joints & such. Check the condition of the radiator too for rust & decay!

thanks twidly. How do you check ball joints? Are the engines ok with that kind of mileage?

The engine's are fine! Mine's done 92K & it sounds like a dream. My Mum's has done 110K & drives perfectly. Diesels will run forever!
IIRC you have to stick a screwdriver in it & wiggle it or something... I think it's not supposed to move a lot... someone else with more knowledge on that will no doubt provide you with better information. Cause I haven't actually done it myself, just know it should be done as they're notorious for clunking & failing MOT's.

Ask if the crank pulley has been changed as well, because they are a common fault on the hdi

Rattles and like a metallic sound. You can see it wobble a bit as well.

Mine fell off on the M1 Laughing
