Right im trying to remove my rear brake callipers as hey are geting painted tomorow. The only problem is we cant get the handbrake calliper disconected. Does anyone know a good way to remove it cheers

Don't remove the whole caliper. Just undo the 2x 17/19?mm bolts and pull the big C shaped bit off and get it painted.
2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

howcome. The only probably with that is im taking thm sumwhere to get painted :s

Thats the only part that is really visable, otherwise you'll have to take the whole caliper off and bleed the brakes, Take a look at edwards Garage.

Im guna have to bleed the brakes anyway as im changing the fronts to brembos at the same time

All sorted now. Me nate managed to get the handbrake disconected and they are now down the shop getting painted

Because it's in 2 parts. There's a alloy block part with the piston and handbrake mechanism. This part doesn't need painting. There's also the C shaped section that's made from steel. That's the only bit that needs painting.

The gold part is the only bit that needs painting...

 


The rest of the caliper is alloy and doesn't need painting.

well his son is a mechanic and he is down there most of the time so he should know that anyway, does it mater if the bit that dont need painting gets painted ??? cheers

It doesn't matter if it gets painted but simply polishing it with autosol would have looked much better.

That also means you wouldn't have had the hassle of removing the brake pipe (and bleeding them afterwards) and handbrake cable!

Ah tht don't mata then because me mate os doin it all for me. The front brakes had to come off anyway as brembos arw goin on and im changing the master brake cylinder so its only a bot mre bleeding for him to do
