Right, over the last couple of wks the wifes 2001X 2.0 HDI has been cutting out every now & again!! when pulling up at junctions etc & the clutch is pressed the revs just die & it cuts out. Sometimes it starts straight away & sometimes it takes like a dozen attempts!!

Then today all the lights have gone insane. The rear fog light indicator on the dash is lit up. Also all the indicators are permenantly on, slIghtly dull though & not at full power.

When I press the brake pedal the rear fog light indicator light dulls slightly!! Then when the headlights are off & i put the indicator on then the full beam comes on!!

I've just been sat outside in the car with it idling & the engine cuts out when the brake pedal is pressed a few times!! Shocked Idea Confused

I'm well & truely confused!!

Where the lights are concerned i'm thinking it's either some dodgy wiring or maybe even the light/indicator stalk itself!!

With the cutting out i'm guessing at the ICV!!

Anybody else got any ideas?

thanks

Lights is probably a dodgy earth/loose connection
I wonder why I bother with this place, 4 years and all members do is slag each other off. Even Barry Boys seems a nicer place at times...

Right, went for a drive in it earlier, the cutting out seems related to the crazy lights issue!!

When the lights are switched on the engine cuts out when the brake is pressed even if the car is just sat idling!! When the lights are turned off the engine doesn't cut out!!

Would the BSI actually cause all the lights etc to go crazy & for the car to cut out when the lights are on & brake pedal is pressed??

BSI reset procedure.............

Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.

Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.

Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.

Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).

Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.

Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.

Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.

Remove key open & close door test central locking system.

Start the engine and complete the system's check.

I've just followed the BSI resetting procedure from the "how to" section!! Hasn't made any difference. There's a Pug specialist in the next village, jusat spoken to him & he says I need to get an auto electrician to look at it!!

Just noticed your procedure differs slightly from the "how to" section procedure!! Yours has "Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds" added to it so haven't tried that.

I'll give your procedure a go later on as i'm going out now!!

car still going loopy!! Confused

Spoke to an auto electrician last night, told me to remove the BSI & take it in the house then putting near a radiator or fire to make sure it's dry inside on the off chance some water or condensation etc has got inside it. Did it, no better!!

He also advised me to remove fuses 1 at a time while the engine is running to see if there's any change with the lights & cutting out when brake pedal pressed!! Bit of a result, when i remove the fuse for the rear light cluster brake light & high level B/L the car doesn't cut out when the brake pedal is pressed!! The lights are still all over the place though!!

He seems to think there's a bad earth somewhere!! anyways, i've done all i'm gonna do with it myself now so he's coming round on Tues to have a look at it!!

If anybody has any other ideas just let me know!!

thanks

Just spoke to a mechanic he thinks by reading this that it could be a clutch or throttle switch !
