might be a daft question but what is the difference between the 137bhp Gti engine an the 180BHP version? and is there any chance in tweeking mine to get 180 bhp ot of it?

alot and you could buy j 180 for the price of the mods, try a search as this is a FAQ.

Yes you can tune the 138 to make 180 power because at the end of the day the 180 hasn't had anything special done to it. It's juts a tuned 138 at the end of the day.
2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

The intake manifold, throttle body & exhaust manifold are visually different plus the engine cover.

In reality, even with about 20bhp more, the 180 is totally different to drive. You can get an extra 20bhp with mods on a 138, but it won't be a 180 just by adding power Wink

180s are totally different, and its not a huge amount bhp more but slap a remap on both and its a diffo story

between my gti and kyles 180 is a different story it kills it after 2nd gear the 138 from what i read isnt very good for geting bhp from unless you start putting throttle bodies on and change the ecu as it isnt very good to be mapped

Had a company car GTi 138 (Phase 1) and owned a GTi 180 for a year, Totally different experience, much more torque much more noise, handling above everything was a different league. (thicker anti roll bars, suspension etc...)

Plus there are the same amount of money for a decent one now (same age) about £3500 - £4000

Only bad point of course is insurance, mine cost £2100 to insure at 20 with 2 years NCB
