Has anyone attempted a drum to disc conversion?
It only seems that the handbrake could be the only pitful atm, although I'm yet to strip it all down for a proper butcher's.
I'm having the rear axle off so I can do the bearings, so thought whilst I'm there, have a play

Search is a wonderfull thing.....
You will need to replace your drum axle with a Disc one, you can not just change the drums to discs.

You don't actually need to change the axle, it can be done without it, I know that RacerX who has a GTi-6 just modified the original beam. However, it's sooo much better if you get the a disc'd axle, you'll get a better ARB etc too. Mark where your old one came off so that the new one can be easily aligned again. It's only 4 big bolts. It shouldn't take more than an hour to remove an axle, even if you haven't done it before...disconnect handbrake cables and any abs cable if they're attached, remove bits of of exhaust that are in the way, undo 4 bolts underneath and drop onto some cardboard or something.

Aww pants, yeah sorry forgot about the search function. Doh!
Thanks for the info too
I have the back box off, brake pipes and abs disconnected and the sub frame bolts have been cracked ready for dropping. Just got to strip down the hubs now and release the hand brake cables.
I'll have a look about and replace the bearings etc on a GTi axle. Going by how bad the play is on the radius arm, a new bearing etc might not cure it on my current one.
