me too.... kind of suited the look.... bugger all good as a spoiler. I would get more downforce with a fly sat on the bumper

Don't worry about the paint job...the tailgate is bound to get mangled when you go backwards into a forest anyway!

Im sure you will be fine Mac.
New window and GTi spoiler and your sorted, saying that the GT wasnt speced with a spoiler as it was an optional extra.

The bi planbe is usually just bolted on the bolts are a little tricky to get to you will find them hiding behind the wiring rubbers on each side of the tail gate 10mm iirc. Although I have seen these boned as well as the bolts really don't look man enough to hold the spoiler on

If its tigerseal then just cut it off with a big knife. Then sand and spray that small top section. that would be the cheapest option. Shame though that spoiler really suits your car.
