did anyone have a problem with there fule cap freezing over the xmas period, or does anyone no a way to stop it happerning?

Yes. Use WD40 to free it up.

What? I don't suggest putting the whole bottle in there lol. just a quick squirt and wiggle the key gently until it opens. It'll also make the cap smoother to open in the future, as I found out. Multiple levels of win!
Edit: Oh right, I get it now. *facepalm*
