First and foremost hello to all!

Im hoping someone can give me a little advice as I am in the market for a 206 GTI for the wife.

I went to view a 2003 model this afternoon.

Bearing in mind I have never driven a 206 before, in fact this will be our first Peugeot so I have no means of comparison and dont know if its 'just as they are' so to speak, so I walked away to think about it whilst I decided to get some advice.

My concern was that the gearbox felt rather floppy/baggy if you know what I mean, however all gears went in as they should including reverse with no crunching or grinding. I also noticed every now and again I could hear a light clonk when releasing the clutch up after selecting 2nd gear.

I know that Peugeot are not famed for well built boxes, but really just need to know if the floppyness is normal together with that occasional clonk.

Other than that the car drove great and performed well.

Many thanks in advance.

sounds familiar to me.

i've been getting that clonk noise on clutch release since i bought the car, during a service i asked them to check the clutch/gears etc and they seemed happy with it. so i would personally take that a normal.

to be fair peugeot gearchanges are always very notchy and gearchanges feel a bit like stirring a cake mix rather than driving a car haha

if its the only thing that puts you off owning one fit a quickshift to the gearchange and it will make a hell of a difference to the sloppyness did this on my old 1.4 and loved it Smile to be honest the notchiness is just a quirk of the car and nothing you can really do about it

the clonk maybe an engine/gearbox mount or something iv had three 206s and never experienced that before

yep, its normal lol.

if you are used to a real good gearbox (such as the modern ford ones, which seem to glide from gear to gear) it can be a bit of a shocker going to a peugeot one.

the one on my 206 is exactly the same. a bit rough and kinda floppy but operates fine. i think thats just how they get when they are a bit used

Please Dont take any of my posts as written fact. They are simply my opinion and although to the best of my knowledge true, the information within them may well be incorrect.

Any work you undertake as a result of my posts is done so at your own risk Smile
