ive been looking on the net and came across that the gti 180 had to be recalled late 2004 due to running problems and X6M software put on ecu
how will i know if mine has been recalled? if i rung my local dealer do you thing they will think im chatting bubble and fob me off mine runs ok in all fairness but a ecu update would be good

Yeah they did get recalled about that time. If you ring your local dealer they should be a ble to tell you if yours has had the update or not

If its a safety recall it should be done for free

Defect: The software may cause erratic operation of the motorised throttle, which may result in breakage of the throttle stop. This can result in the engine reverting to limp home mode, with a possible reduction in braking assistance.
Action: Subject vehicles will be recalled and the condition eradicated by carrying out an ECU download.

Mine had been recalled, it's in the service history. Not sure what was done though. Interesting about the limiter one, what did they do to it?

i think it was cut from 7250rpm to 6900rpm

Mikey - the thing I was talking about was probably just a random update. It turns on the rear wiper when you go into reverse and sets the rev limiter to 6800rpm amongst other bits n bobs.
