Ok so I've finished chopping up the centre console...
I did the above, then I couldn't sleep and it was midnight so I did this...oops...
and after finding something and a short dicussion with the father about it working etc, this happened...
But before anyone starts saying about double din headunits etc it's not happening. But there is alot of fibreglassing and moulding to be done. The whole thing will be wrapped in purple suede to go with the theme of the car.

I know what you mean...but there was problems with some of the paintwork such as the roof bars where cement has gotten in grain in the paint (building work at home and I was away the day they were mixing and didn't have the decency to cover the car etc) and also the spoiler. The vinyl had actually started to shrink, I didn't realise that vinyl does this but it was lifting away from the curves so had to come off but it was cheap tat that a 'pro' signmaker had fitted.
Slot of this is down to just wanting verifying perfect, so if it means having slot of the stuff sprayed again, it'll have to be done. It's taken almost two years to built this and I'm not going to cut corners on it in it's final stint.

7" monitor arrived today...
Just to give you an idea of how it'll sit in the console...
The idea is that I'll have it angled within the gap sitting a little further up than that picture but the top and bottom willl be blended in with the curve of the console but the sides will have to be angled to give it that OEM look. Dad said about mounting it perfectly horizontal but it would have the corners poking out which is not the look I want. So I'm going to pick up a fibreglassing kit to get this work underway. Aslong as I can get the majority of the work done and filled up etc, virtually finished ready for paint, they will make it 100% for me and ready for me to get it all wrapped up in Purple alcantara.
Now, apart from the reversing camera which will be mounted in the boot spoiler what are the other possibilities for hooking up to this screen..? I've thought about wiring in the audio video cables to hook up a netbook to the screen for itunes.

with net book running itunes you could create a wirless point in the car and control itunes wirelessly via phone or ipod touch (going on if you have iphone or ipod touch)

search app store for remote, logo looks like one in this pic (next to parking game) as there are quite a few remote apps...
then an old bt vouger router or simlar to create wireless network, (they run on 12v) connect the netbook and iphone to network then run the app and there you go.
its quite good app, use it all the time at home with pc conneted to sound surround, no need to get up just get my phone out my pocket lol

Only real update is that I've had the tyres stripped off the Nimrods today and started work on one of them, one with the most curbing.
Masked up the barrel of the wheel as the plans are to have the faces of the wheels in Velvet Purple and level the barrels in Gloss Black. Now rubbing down the powdercoat wasn't too hard, took about an hour to do the wheels perfect by hand. Coated it with a couple of coats of grey primer and then a thin coat of Purple Velvet. Come back a couple of hours and the whole wheels go dimples in it :S Dunno how or why...so the wheels being taken back down to the primer and I'll give it a couple of coats of filler primer to sort all that out. Can't understand why it's done that though as the wheel is fine when there no paint on it.
Anyway, just to give you an idea of how it's looks.

The reactions are due to the primer.
I'd strongly advise not using the halfords yellow filler primer.
Also, an average 1k grey primer should do the job, I'm guessing the reaction was due to the primer not being set?

Primer had been left for 6 hours before the guide layer had been applied. I'm using halfords grey primer, always use it and never had a problem. But it's all rubbed down and evened up and filler primer'd up now, once I've corrected any areas that need doing I'll get it sprayed back up.
I've looked at the other wheels when rubbing down and after cleaning them of all dust etc, you can see dimples in the powdercoat :S I'll get some pictures up later.

It's that time again...update...
Earlier in the blog I say about having to clear the coilovers due to the width of the wheels with 5mm spacers, well these got rid of the initial problems but created 2 new problems. The first of the new problems being, they'd were caught on the caliper due to being too big...
This meant I couldn't move the car around as if I tried moving it, the metal on metal would actually start sparking. So had to order up some 3mm shims to sort this out.
3mm shim laying on top of the 5mm shim, the difference in width gives ample clearance. But going back to the first problem, due to the 5mm shims original on the car I also had the problem of fitting the wheels as the wheels would only sit on the disc spigot by a mm. So now I've got 3mm of spigot for the wheel to sit on making wheels easier to fit.
Clearance hasn't really changed between inner lip and winders...
5mm shims -
3mm shims -
Also currently deciding on whether or not to wind the coilovers all the way down because a) the arch lip may sit on the tyre and b) the winders may fowl the inner lip of the MAMs.
Finally just a pic of how the car sits atm...the car is sitting at a rack as there's a slope on the drive way and also because the front wheels are actually sitting in a well/ridge where water runs down to the gutter. All bits that were dropped off at the bodyshop to be sprayed up I'll be getting back on Thursday, bit of a delay due to the chap having family problems, but I'm in no real hurry.
