What do you want to retrim and what material do you want to use?

either way you'll be fine with about 2 metres of either material. It just depends on how you layout your templates as my dad did it so he had very little waste material yet still be able to cover what he needed.

With the 60" width of the leatherette allowed my dad to lay both of the front doorcard centres across the width and then lay the rear two under that and next to the two rears the glovebox door and get the material cut out and the waste was literally like 5mm all the way around each doorcard.

that's alright for me Smile do you just glue it onto the yellowish cream door card and refit it into the door?
how did you get the doorcard out of the car?

thanks for all insight

as for what im re trimming, i want to redo glove box, the fusebox cover and doorcards in leatherette

and the roof and pillars in suede

so basically like you but fusebox in leatherette instead of suede =]

Yeh you have to pull all the old material off and use the original fibreglass backing mould of the doorcards.

The doorcards are simple enough to take out the car. The rear ones was just one screw that holds the handle in and you just pull the doorcard off and the front is the same screw as rear one screw at front of doorcard and one under the tweeter cover and just pull out.

I'm going to be getting hold of some more of the faux suede next week as I'm going to use the material once I've found a RG being broken for parts and buy the doorcards and the rear window motors and looms etc so I can do a rear electric window conversion.

I'm going to be getting a second set of cheap manual window doorcards and using the cloth centres to retrim in the suede to match my roof and pillar covers but have the electric window doorcard surrounds.

But I wouldn't advise doing this sort of stuff if you aren't very keyed up with how to do it as it does require alot of time and precision. 1 f*** up and straight back to the start.

It took my dad about 10 mins to get the faux suede wrapped perfect on each of the pillar covers.

You also need to know which way the suede brushes up and down as you need to have it the right way up on all the pillar covers or you'll have odd looking cover as all the suede will be in different directions.

why did u suede the fusebox covver and leather the glovebox? surely you would have wanted them to be the same?

Explanation in the post above but I have a spare fuseboard cover which I'm retrimming in leatherette. Going to do that a little later on today.

Thanks for the explaination, now you mention it I will leave the toof and pillars alone, just gunna do doorcards etc in leatherette and leave it a that, I presume your dad must be quite practiced at this and I'm not ><

Uz, just a little question for you, but have you managed to get arch liners for the GT bumper? the sports arch liners dont sit right and you cant get a fixing to hold them in place. mine were rubbing off the tyres today. its not a good noise driving on national limit roads lol.

I haven't managed to get hold of the liners for it mate...good thing you've bought it up tbh as I've not got a clue on what to do about it as like you I've got sports wings and the GT bumper :S

I'm thinking that when I have the metal undertray made I'll have it so it goes across the bumper and then just have it so that I can bolt the sorts arch liners onto the undertray.

But if you come up with anything let me know please Smile

the sport lining is no no for the gt wing infact its need a non sport lining though. I have a non sport lining at home but need exchange for the pair of sport arch lining though

Also I have noticed that you getting the engine under cover made up by metal, wondering how much its would cost to have one made? I currently have a plastic but its flimsy at the moment and I would love to go for the metal maybe something light like aluminium or sort of it?

With regards to the sports linings only other thing I can think of it cut them where they mount onto the bumper and modify them so you can mount them to the bumper on the sides and also modify them so they follow the shape of the bumper and how they go down from the wing.

I'll see how it goes...see if I can get hold of some cheap sports arch liners from the scrappy first.

It's gunna cost somewhere in the region of £200 for a undertray that spans the width of the bumper and runs the length of the original engine tray and undertray for the GT bumper all in one piece. It will be made out of metal and will be using the original mounting points.

Cheers for the offer mate but I'm going for some serious dishage very soon as they definately won't fit under the nonsport wings even with the GT lips on them.

Mmm could do this way. but I hope you able to sort this way because its would be kinda dificult. maybe its would work better if its has a under engine cover so its would have a somewhere to hold the arch lining fully?
I seem cant find a good condition sport lining for gti wing and sport bumper even that scrappy you goes in redditch though? if you can get a full set for front ones would be amazing and I can pay you for it?

Mm but its would be tougher and durbable and better than plastic undertray for sure! I have a orginial undertray sitting in garage which my garage took off due to service and say its broken and I think they talking crap! But its would be interesting to see how its comes out with the metal. Which metal you think you might be using for the undertray?

I really need speak you about to getting my a,b,c pilar retrimmed in suede and your dad or you doing it for me? and the headlining too! Have you done your headlining yet?

What you gotta do with the sunvisiors? as they are in grey isn't it?

Sorry when I wrote metal I actually meant Aluminium (like a 2mm sheet).

Yeh pop up mate...be nice to catch up and have a word about the stuff your looking at doing and see if we can help in anyway Smile

Roofs not been done yet due to the weather not being right for doing it atm as I need to do it outside as I need alot of space.

I'm looking into what to do with the sunvisors but I am replacing them for 406 lit ones but I will still be looking into it Smile

I've also got abit of an update.

I've just been on volkswagon stickers and bought a couple of stickers for the car.

Firstly;

and finally and my fav;

 


Got a few more stickers to buy and I'll buy those as soon as I've found them lol.

and also Matt very kindly sold me his EZR fuel cap cover so I swapped that with the SP fuel cap cover off my XSi and fitted it onto this one.

 



I will be having it powdercoated off in gloss black to match my wheels along with all the other gloss black bits on the exterior of the car.
