hey dunno if i'm just worrying but got my car home today and was checking something in the engine and there was a white dried up dusty residue all over the engine cover and some down the back of the block but checked my coolant level and before it was brimming but now i cant see any, has the tank split or has the head gasket likely blown? the car wasn't overheating, i still had hot air in the heater and the oil looked okay only other thing was i kept the car running and took the oil cap off and was getting hot air blowing out of the hole where the oil goes, is this normal? 2.0 hdi dturbo btw
any help appreciated:)
Thanks
Chris

Should only go to the max line. It's an expansion bottle really and when the coolant gets hot/flushed through the system it expands and if there is no room in the bottle the build up of pressure has no where to go. May have blown a seal or something. Best bet is to make sure the the engine bay is dry, and top up coolant, check for leaks anywhere.
Worst case head could have warped or cracked

Check the engine cover isn't loose or has rubbed through any of the small coolant hoses

Doesn't a coolant cap have a pressure release valve ? - so that if there is too much of a pressure build up it can release as an overflow and would cause this? I'm sure I came across that somewhere, correct me if I'm wrong

I haven't noticed one no - but I had crystalised coolant which had escaped through the expansion cap when my car must have been running nice and hot (not over heating!!). This too was after the garage over filled mine. I wouldn't worry.
And you will get some air movement out of the oil cap if you open it when running due to the head internals moving.

try a new cap, the one ya got now might be faulty
surly it wouldnt squirt all over the place if it was working normally, it would seep out

He might do - but if the 2.0 HDI is anything like the 2.0 petrol the expansion tank angles in the direction of the rocker cover so could easily seep over it without being a squirter. Who knows

it's your head gasket pal
had this on another derv 206
whats happening is the pressure from in the cylinders is leaking out into the water jacket o nthe car and pressurising the bottle causing it to leak.
