New to Peugeots and new to driving, so you're talking to a car maintenance virgin here!

I bought a 2001 (51) 2.0 HDI GLX non-muxed as my first car last month, and it's had a lot of little problems: all fairly minor. Well, the Mass Air Flow sensor did fail while I was going down the M4 on my first solo motorway jaunt, but that's another story.

Off the top of my head:

* Wipers work, but auto-wipers don't seem to. The stalk-press-to-enable thing doesn't seem to do anything.
* Speaker and tweeter in Driver's door are very quiet and very crackly.
* Driver's Electric Window works, but the Auto function doesn't work.
* Electric Sunroof works, but the Auto function doesn't work.
* I'm not sure, but I think the boot light doesn't work.
* Left Side Indicator is dim, but does work.
* Alarm seems extremely sensitive, to the point that after a few 3am wake-ups, I've stopped using it.
* Central locking bounces: some days it's fine, some days it's temperamental (esp. when wet).

All of these are presumably explainable in isolation, and none of them are individually worth fixing (apart from the locks, which I reckon is the known problem re: damp solenoids, and just a case of eliminating which one is bad), so I'm loathe to spend hundreds of pounds getting someone to find and fix the problem.

However, I'm wondering if they could all be explained by a common (and conveniently simple to fix) electrical problem, eg. a bad Earth. Any thoughts? Any tips on how a newbie could go about tracing the problem?

(PS. the forum posts, stickies and FAQs on this site have been invaluable to me over the past month. Thanks everyone!)

Auto wiper = Move ths stalk to the auto position when it starts raining & let the sensor do it's thing.

Auto window & sunroof buttons = These require just a quick press to activate the auto function.

Boot light = Have you checked the bulb isnt blown?

Alarm sensativity = It needs new ultrasonic sensors, its a common problem & there only about £25 new from Peugeot / Citroen & pretty easy diy to fit.

You can as a test to confirm the problem turn them off, ignition OFF, press & hold the button by the handbrake until the alarm warning light comes on, now deadlock the car as normal, you have to do that everytime you want to arm the system with the ultrasonics off.

Thanks... I'll give the alarm button a go and test the boot light, but I've already tried the auto functions exactly as you describe. The fact that the wipers, sunroof and windows work but their auto functions don't work seems odd. It just seems a bit of a coincidence, or alternatively just connected to a single fault somewhere...?

Elelctric sunroof is a very rare option on a 206.

The switches do take some getting used to.

As for the auto wiper, when its dark with the engine running turn the auto function ON & get out the car, now look at the rain sensor in the middle of the screen right at the top, can you see an orange glow coming from the sensor?

Very Happy

Thanks for the tip about auto-wiper. I'll check that when it gets dark this evening.

I just checked the rain sensor: it's glowing orange as you mentioned. I then threw some water (okay, I spat) at it, and to my surprise it worked! It certainly wasn't working for me when it was peeing down last week.

As for the driver's window one-touch, I've tried every duration of press from sustained down to a tiny peck, and it won't engage the auto function. Sad

With the once touch, you'll feel two stages on the switch. Pull up has hard as you can to enable one-touch to close, and press down hard to enable one touch to open.
