OK, so basically one of the reasons for my 206 failing its MOT was that there was a cut in the tyre (annoying as still lots of mileage in the tyre other than this) but it needed replacing to pass the MOT.

I have a set of alloys I was going to refurb, one of which has an almost brand new budget tyre on, perfect to fit for the MOT. I had let all the air out to make the refurb easier, so I popped it in the boot and took it to the local petrol station to fill it up with air, and it won't inflate it at all. Checked the air machine on the tyres on the car and its working fine.

I think basically it has too little air in it and the machine cant tell what the pressure is to then top it up, but I'm a bit stuck now as no way to fill it up with air, anyone got any ideas? (I work a lot so don't have time to take it to a garage before the retest on Thurs).

Drive around and find a garage with a manual analogue gauge, however most if not all auto gauges I have seen on forecourt have a button with a picture of a flat tire which enables the setting to fill up a complete flat.

I don't think it had a flat tyre button, but I'll check a couple of other garages nearby and see, thanks all!! Very Happy

The tyre has Probably come off the bead, You will need to take it to a garage/tyre fitter to get them to blow it up for you. The compressors at service station wont inflate the tyre fast enough for the tyre to pop onto its bead.

Regarding the MOT, if you didn't have a space saver and you were sure the tyre was ok, couldn't you have just swapped it for the spare in order to pass the MOT? You then just take the car in without a spare and then swap back over afterwards. I'm sure (unless its a myth) that they can't fail you for not having a spare but they can check the spare if it is still attached under the car.

it is illegeal to use spare tyre for prolonged period.
