Hi,

Since getting my new car the peugeot has been stood still since july. Its been to a garage in the last couple of weeks for MOT and a service. Its been on the road for a couple of days with a relative driving it. I drove it today and it has a problem

The steering is heavy and doesnt feel smooth as you apply more steer. It also doesn't correct its self. at ~25mph you can put half a turn of steer on and the car will follow that line all day long.

Fluid is at the right level, pump turns fine, belt is tight.

Anyone have any ideas?

cheers!

Tyre pressures are fine, itis running 15x6 wheels on 195/50 15s but i had those on before and it never felt like this. The wider wheels are being swapped soon for some 306 d turbo rims so might lighten it up a bit.

Canny sure its rack related like, i'll have a poke about. Its much more compact round the front end than my '80s RWD volvo lol much harder to work on / look at stuff

check the steering arms for perished rubbers and knackered ball joints on the track rod ends. Is the pump working properly? There could also be condensation/water in the steering fluid if its been sat for a while, even air in the system aswell.

aye will give them a check, never thourght of water / air in the system just had a quick check of the level. It passed the MOT, and that's usualyy when garages say you need new balljoints etc. Its had a new bottom arm and wishbone on the n/s but cant see how that would cause this effect.

Thanks for all the help, i forgot how good this site is Smile

belt seems perfectly tight and ump turns but don't think its working properly, all other easily checkable parts seem fine, going to look at getting a pump from a scrappies and swap it
