what am i looking to change?
im not sure if its the gear box or whatever component i should be looking to change.
but moving up from low gears 1,2,3, its rather 'rocky'. its not stiff, doesnt make any grinding noise. just a audible deep gear changing sound but i think thats normal. its just difficult to change up the first 3 gears quickly and efficiently. not sure if its a psychological thing, but it improves quites a bit when the car is all warmed up. fresh start from cold is really irritating to use.
it just does not slide very nicely or smoothly as compared when i go from 3 to 4.
smoothest from 4-5.
would changing a gear box to a brand new one give me that smooth and maybe quieter gear change? or am i looking at the wrong part?

When was the gearbox oil changed last? Could be the problem, you would be best getting a garage to take a look

I have the same issue but a new gear box would cost you around 500.

If it is difficult to change gear when its cold i think u should change gearbox oil first.wrong type oil might be used before.its worth before u change a component.

Common problem on 206s, unless it's really bad I wouldn't worry about it.

figure this one out...
I can only change gear 1 smoothly when the car stops??
otherwise I have to force it with a bit of pressure.
also can this contribute to a rattling exhaust?

Maybe one of your engine mounts are on its way out.
