Hi,

We have just purchased a 206 1.4LX Auto (03 reg) and have to admit that I think it suits my partner quite well (she is driving it everywhere!). So hello to everyone from Kevin + Tasha.

We do have the niggle of the oil level indicator providing erratic readings which we have read is a bit of a common problem. I think that replacing the oil level sensor may be worth a shot for the fairly limited amount they cost. Does anyone know where it is located in the engine block or the sump pan?

It will be more likely the BSI software Wink

The sensor level probe rarely goes wrong itself.

Hi MrrNoName & MrBSI.

Thanks for the welcome and info. If it is more likely to be the software that would involve a trip to the dealer. I have a fault code reader but would need the full diagnostic software to update the BSI software.

Was there a recall sent out by Peugeot to rectify this? I imagine not due to it not being a safety issue but worth asking.

With regards to the oil level sensor - are the readings erratic depending on where you've parked. It varies massively if you're on an incline/decline etc.

We live in a flat with a communial car park and allocated bays. The car park is fairly level and we are always in the same space so there is no real reason on the readings being massively different each morning she gets into the car.

I understand that the readings may vary if the engine is warm but we are getting different readings in the morning where it has been standing overnight.

Its a 1.4 of 2003 vintage, the plastic end of the dipstick would have snapped of by now & be floating in the sump Laughing

My 53 plate 2.0 HDI has always had erratic oil level readings.
I asked the garage to look at it (during a service) and they came back with a 'not sure why it's doing it' - I've lived with it as I find the dipstick checked on a regular basis gives a good indication.
It is rare for a modern engine to drink or spill loads of oil, if it does, it normally indicates a problem!

With a diesel lump its important to check the oil level regularly & make sure it never goes over the max on the dipstick.

Too much oil in a diesel = start looking for a replacement engine Laughing

unless its a new ford fiesta, work with a fleet of them and they all drink oil Smile

very true, never go above the max line, causes all sorts of problems, its just as bad as going below the min line lol

Hi,

I have an update on our oil level sensor. It has now gone from providing random readings to the consistant flashing every morning. In the handbook it indicates that there is a fault and not a oil level reading.

This makes me think that the sensor has finally given up the ghost. Does anyone know where it is located so replacement could be tried?
