Mate of mine wants a cheap car untill he passes his test so he can fix up a little.
We've seen this one...
What do you think and do you think it would be expensive to sort out?

Seems an odd diagnosis to me, without seeing it anyway. If it is the head gasket probably about £350 unless you did it yourself.

i'd avoid - there's loads of cheap 206's out there

Most places would want to do the water pump etc at the same time, so could get about £500

The gasket kit is about £50, new bolts are about £10, torque wrench is £20, so £80 to change the head gasket.
Unless you wanted to do the cambelt as well... which is about £50

When mine went i got quoted £400 So i sold it for that amount....
I wouldnt want to risk it my self incase the heads need skimming.

This. Not exactly spoilt for choice and buying a car that you know is knackered is always risky unless a) you're sure how much it's going to cost or b) you have a lot of technical knowledge/expertise/tools to do it yourself.
