Well what can i say, i took my car in for a service and the man said that the car was making a terrible noise and thought it was the cambelt. I took it for a second opinion and the mechanic said the water pump has had it and if i drive it even to the end of the road then the chances are it would explode and take the engine out with it. I am quite surprised as the car has done just over 47,000 miles.
I have asked for the cambelt and the water pump to be changed at a cost of £670. I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?
Thanks

£670 for timing belt and water pump.
Was the mechanic wearing a mask and a striped jumper?

if your handy with the spanners you could do it yourself for just over 100, you wouldnt pay 670 on a 180 and its more of a big job

how much!?! they are ripping you off big time
i paid peugeot to replace my cambelt, all tensioners and idlers, water pump, auxillery belt, auxillery tensioner and coolant and it came to £430 and that was on a 180 if you have a smaller engine it should be cheaper

I've worked it out. It's an eco friendly garage and they are using bottled water to refill the coolant.

I had my 2.0HDI cambelt and tensioners done last year for £180. Gave water pump a miss - I know it should be done but too a chance and so far so good.

If it's that likely to go pop then tow the car away.

This indeed, or, it cost me £50 to trailer a VX about 30 minutes. Call up your local agencies, see what they say.
