Lately the accelerator pedal has felt really stiff and I've had to really push it down to get power to the engine but while out driving tonight it suddenly freed up, felt really loose but at this moment I couldn't get any revs to the engine, just idling speed.

Pulled over and had a look at the engine. The cylindrical part of what I think is the accelerator cable (correct me if I'm wrong) had had come out of place and was just hanging on to the clip that holds it in. The first picture should be horizontal but my Mac won't let me rotate it Confused

The second picture is a close-up of what I'm talking about.

Once I put this part of the cable back in place the engine was able to rev again but I couldn't get past 30mph. Had another fiddle when I got home and then took the car for another spin; managed to get up to 50mph but still the the revs aren't as strong. The car's a 1.9d and I know these engines are slow but still something doesn't feel right. Acceleration is slower and more progressive than it was before this happened.

What is the above part that came out of place? Why did the acceleration come back once this part was in place again? Even when back in place why is the acceleration not as powerful as before?

that the pedal sensor. \ did you adjust the cable right?

Ah right. Thanks. I'm not sure if I did or not. I just put the sensor back where it's normally clipped in. What should I have done to adjust the cable?

My local garage is closed today so had to go to Peugeot themselves as I need the car for a week's road trip. Their diagnosis is a new accelerator cable required...£120 in total.

hahahaha what a joke! dont even bother, im sure you can find another garage to do it for half that!

Maybe. I need the car ASAP though; they had the part in so it'll at least get done today. I've been to several garages when I've needed work doing ASAP and they've always had to order parts in meaning the job has sometimes taken until the next day to complete.

unclip the cable. pull it as far as you can until you feel the resistant from the cable, then put the clip back.

Changed my cable today took me 20mins! What a result car back to normal! The old cable had stretched and basically wasn't opening the butter fly valve enough, resulting in not enough revs causing car to be like a bag of s**t.
