you could go to a scrappers and get a cig lighter socket and wire that one in to the wires of your orig socket and wrap it up making sure its insulated and holding the plug for the sat nav then feed it up under the centre console and behind the radio to the MFD

I've put a second cig lighter socket in the passengerside footwell. Got sick of the wife charging her phone and the wire being in the way. Only took 5 mins to wire into the original and the cig lighter socket and cover (to make it look neat) cost a couple of quid from a motor spares shop

ill need two, i brought one off ebay because i wanted a diff colour, im thinking ive been a d**k and wired it up wrong lol
the pug one had 3 wires, replacement had 2 wires and 1 plug for light.
the small wire from pug which was a temp live wire, only worked with the lights on/off, i sent to the light on the new lighter. that worked fine, but bulb was very dull.
now that leaves only 2 wires and 2 connectors, so after guessing i got the cigarette lighter to heat up, but sat nav wouldnt notice it was plugged in, so i checked fuses and found out that the one in the car charger had blown, replaced that, tried again, that blowed, swapped wires and another new fuse fitted i tried my iphone charger, MELTDOWN, just glad phone wernt plugger in.
i thought it could be because the iphone charger was s**t so tried satnav one again, the charger lighted up, plugged in satnav, but the satnav didnt show any signs of life, and now it wont at all, even when i plug it into the computer
so p**sed off
edit-- i think i remember the satnav being plugged in when i tried the iphone charger!

wired it up wrong, guessing, thought, meltdown
None of these words should be associated with anything electrical.
Guessing when dealing with wires is a big mistake, don't know how old your car is but carry on guessing and thinking (or not thinking in this case) and get ready to say goodbye to your BSI.
At least you have admitted "being a d**k", many would blame their tools.
When will people learn that if you don't know what your doing with vehicle electrical systems, leave well alone.
