Hey all, Bought a car last week and on the second day I noticed there's a problem with the rev and speed dials on the instrument cluster are faulty, as in when I'm accelerating the rev counter goes up then I hear a few click noises and the needle jumps down a few times then continue to go up, now I could live with this but I also noticed the speedometer doing the same thing, once I get to around 30mph no matter how fast im going up to it the speed needle will jump down a few times then start going up as normal, therefore giving an innacurate reading.
If I stop the car say at a junction, when I set off and start to accellerate the speedo is then saying im going faster then I am?
Dont know much about cars if im honest so I'm not sure what the problem source is, instrument cluster, speed sensor, electrical etc.
Any help appreciated.

Sounds like a possible faulty cluster. Has the dials been changed [ie the lighting or backgrounds]??

I'll look into it as im not sure if it has, it has 4 dials, 2 are big (rev and speed) 2 are smaller and are kinda joined to the big ones.
Been qouted 50 for a cluster at a local scrapyard, is this a fair price?

You need to be away that the mileage is stored in the cluster, so it will display the mileage of whateveer is on the scrap car.
You need to get a cluster from a 206 Y-reg plate or older

yup, your new cluster needs to be pre-plexed and try to get one around the same milage or less

If you get a lot less then might cause problems with the MOT

Yeh, you do want to make sure its not lower then the last mot or it will show up as a problem if the vehicle is "checked" before someone else buys it.
as the link says, you can always get it corrected pretty cheap, enless you can find a cluster that has virtually the same milage thats probably the best bet! keeps everything legal too

Its not illegal to clock a cars mileages.
Its when you sell the car on & dont inform the buyer the mileage is incorrect when the trouble starts.

so with the temp and fuel guage being correct and only the rev and speed being a problem does it all point to the cluster then over anything else?
