is there any comman faults with these every one,

Its a 1.4 hdi 03 plate and its done just under 165k,

the knock is a little tiny and only apparant on tick over it sounds nice while reving it lighty.

I'm sure I've heard something about a bottom pulley going on these engines and sounding like this, am i right or barking up the wrong tree.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks Mark.

is your aux belt tensioner bouncing on idle and the noise dies when revs are applied?

i had this recently and it was the alternator pulley causing the vibration.

in the end i bought a new alternator which resolved it. i believe you may be able to have the pulley swapped out but it could also be the internal bearing, thus i just bought a new unit seeing as the old one was 8 years old anyway.
however, before that i replaced the aux. belt, tensioner and crank pulley in vain but the noise still existed.

if you put the aircon or electrics on you'll likely hear the noise die down a tad, if this is the same problem. on mine, as soon as the RPM went above tickover the noise went.

if you think it's the crank pulley, have a look at it side on and see if the damper has cracks in it or anything visible of note.

just checked the aux belt tensioner and they seem fine, BUT i did notice that the loom going to the ecu was rubbing on the top pulley ( power steering is it ), so taped it up to the other part of the loom going around the front of the engine so that its safe, and now i cant hear the knock, is it because I just cant hear it from being next to the engine for a while, or could there be a possible chance that it could of been earthing one of the wires on the pulley and causeing over fueling or someting.

ANY HOW, BIG NOTICE TO ALL 1.4 HDI AND POSSIBLE 2.0 HDI OWNERS, CHECK WIRING LOOM, IS IT RUBBING ON TOP PULLY.

hopefully you've found the source of the problem.

the fan belt has probably been rubbing against the wiring?

yes the wiring was rubbing on the belt/pulley and had caused a small amount of damage, couldnt say if it had made any difference to the knocking sound though, think the sound difference that think i could hear while i was out there last night could of bben any think , my ears most prop! or the engine warming up, but you know what its like when your trying to hear for something.
