Two questions. First, I pulled out the ashtray and see this cable and what looks like a bulb on the end sittin inside (I pulled the bulb out before taking the picture). What is it for? Is it the light for inside the ashtray?

Secondly, my cigarette lighter isn't working, how do I go about fixing it? Could it be a fuse that has blown or is the entire unit screwed and I need a replacement? The old one is quite rusty and damaged looking and I'd rather have a working unit for the odd ciggie and also to plus in my phone charger when required. Ta.

1 - Yep, it's for the light in the ashtray which comes on when you have your sidelights on.

2 - Check the fuses to make sure there all good, but if you say the unit is rusty you might as well just get a replacement one and have a nice new shiney one Very Happy

Try cleaning the cig lighter before buying a new one.

Sometime they get loads of crap inside on the filament thing.

Yes, there is a hair clip there. The previous owner was a lady, although how a hair clip got in there I'm not quite sure!

I'll check the fuses when I get home. Anyone know off hand which one to look at? If it isn't the fuse and the unit is knackered, is it just a case of buying a new one and swapping it over, or is there more work involved than that? How do I remove the old unit, just twist and pull or more technical?

Pop gear gaiter up
Unplug the 2 plugs from back of lighter socket
Push metal socket part upwards
Then rescue the orange filter with the bulb holder.

Refitting is reversal of removal.

My car is green and I see Halfords sell a whole new lighter unit with green surround rather than the Peugeot's orange so I may put at on instead! Very Happy

I'll give this all a bash later on tonight when I get home from work. Thanks guys!

Check the price at Citroen first as they will do a green backlit lighter socket Wink

Well, the Halfords one is £9 and I'm taking a friend there tonight so even if Citroen/Peugeot dealers are a quid or two cheaper I don't mind! It's fitting the bugger after buying it that is the part I am not sure about, but learn by doing as they say!
