Hi guys, new to the forum and the whole peugeot thing. I've almost bought a 55 plate 1.4hdi 206 van, its in pretty good condition but would benefit from a bit of tlc. My only concern with the car is the amount of play in the gear lever when its in gear. Usually something like this might put me off but i've got an ok deal and the car is pretty local . Is it just a matter of a new bush and adjustment of the linkages or is it a bigger and more expensive problem than i think.
I'm sure if i buy the car car i'll be around a fair bit as i can never leave things standard. Appreciate any help or advice you can give me.

my 206 has the same issue as the gearbox feels very loose and there is a fair amount of slack at the gear stick, have just become used to it but compared with my 306 gti-6 it feels awful and welcome to the forum

My previous cars have been in really good nick plus in a different price bracket so i've not experienced this before. The car has done 115k miles so something will be a bit worn. I've spent less on this car than i was planning on doing so i don't mind spending a bit on it to get it running right. At the moment i've only left a small deposit so if someone was to say it might cost £800 to fix then i'd give it a miss but then if its just an easy fix at the garage then i'll still buy it and tart the thing up.

MA gearbox - they have plenty of play new from the factory.
A new set of link rods will tighten it up a bit.

the MA (standard) gearbox is known to be rubbish, when I first test drove my 206 I remember thinking OMG how "floppy" is the gear stick!?!
The gearbox's are generally crap, but they do work lol.
Now im used to it, it seems fine (untill I drive a ford lol)
I wouldnt let that put me off providing it goes into all gears and reverse with a pump or two on the clutch.

Well I bought it anyway and it drives pretty good. Considering I spent much less than I intended on the purchase I'm pretty happy and it means i can throw a few hundred quid at it to sort a few little problems out. Be prepared for plenty of questions over the next month or 2....now where's that sparco steering wheel I took off my old mr2..........

A 206 GTI / leather sports steering wheel is a much better idea with the mot test getting tougher next year as it keeps the original drivers airbag
Make sure its the clip on / multiplexed type of steering wheel.
