Whats the average amount of miles each 206 engine will live for? Say in a regularly serviced, looked after ownership
And when they do go ka-put, is it a simple case of getting the head rebuilt for it to start all over again?

I would have thought it would also depend what engine it is. I would have though a 2.0 hdi would last alot longer than a 1.1 petrol

my car is a 1999 T reg,
had 114k on the clock and then needed a new engine, now thats replaced, there's more needs doing.
there's always going to be something wrong with it so just depends on how long you want to throw money at it

If the car is run regularly and serviced regularly over a decent distance 200k miles should be easy.

Kay's 1.1 was over 100k on the same engine it came out of the factory with, and there's been other 1.1's on here with higher milage than that.
There was, not sure if there is now, a dirty derv on here clocking almost 200k.

I see, I often get errands that involve driving less than 2 miles, turn off, on then go back home, aside from transmission can that kill an engine?

Its not good running on a cold engine all the time, and it will kill your CAT sooner rather than later

Just service is more regularly you'll be fine, aslong as your not putting your foot to the floor on the short journeys it just increases the rate of wear and tear, and drinks up more fuel on shorter journeys, but like I say, regular servicing should keep it going without a problem tbh.
Cant remeber off the top of my head but I think pug says, if your car contstantly makes sort journeys service every 10k, otherwise every 20k..
Saying that, mine never does short journeys and gets serviced every 8k roughly anyway lol!

Thanks everyone, it put my mind at rest. I shall let the car warm up for a few minutes before going on my short journeys from now on
As for diesels, can the 1.9 live as long as the 2.0 hdi?
You hear about volvos that have a million miles on the clock, is the 2.0 hdi a contender? My grandad has one and says it should outlive the bodywork
Are 138s/180 doomed to a short life? As I have heard they are delicate
