Hiya,
So I posted about this a while ago and I was told that maybe it's the sensor, so I replaced the coolant temperature sensor it and it's still doing it. I have the necessary amount of coolant too.
So sometimes my car will beep, the temperature will go all the way up to red, the stop light is flashing and then after a couple of seconds, it'll go back to normal. It seems to be mainly when I'm going slowly, but I don't know if that's coincidence, because according to my Dad I'm a 'granny driver'. pssht. ANYWAY, I replaced the sensor and it's still doing it.
It's embarrassing with people in the car and makes me think oh f*** when I'm in the McDonalds drive thru and it's doing it, because I think what if it's telling the truth this time and I'm going to break down?! lol.
Any ideas guys? If not looks like I'll be getting my trusty car electrician to come and check it out.

I wish mine DID do that, instead on mine, the temp guages and all say they are normal and then I get smoke come out from under the bonnet lol.

Check if the radiator fan kick in if temperature reach 90 degree, if fan not working check the wire connection of it for any corrosion, If fan warrking, most likely the thermostat of the car engine, u might just replace it cause parts cost u under a tenner.

Haha Abz that sucks! This is still annoying though.
Kit, how do I check the fan? It never seems to kick in, never heard it before.

myke, temp gaugae jumps to red then back again to normal, the stop light flashes, fans kick every time the gauge jumps to red, car isn't actually overheated, is this what you are experiencing?
I had the same problem, I replced the coolant sensor, it actually did nothing, I didn't want to say so, but it's a symptom of ECU failure.

Before final judge on ECU, check your earth connection mate.

No, the fan doesn't kick in.
If it was ECU failure surely everything else would be going wrong too?
If it is ECU failure then I'll live with it p**sing around because I'm not in the position that I can afford a new ECU.
and ham, where would I find this?

I'd check the wiring that goes from the ECU to the ETS very carefully for trapped wire/broken insulation that is earthing to the engine as that will cause your symptoms of sudden temp rise on the gauge with accompanying warnings and then just as quick back to normal again. Check back from the ETS you just changed and look carefully for broken insulation
If you've had work done on the clutch or gearbox perhaps then it's quite common for the wires to be pinched

Well on the plug head there is a wire that looks like it's been cut, but it was like it when I got it?

Got some pics? You need to make sure each ETS wire is well insulated from each other and especially from touching any engine part

Ah I see what you mean. That doesn't look like anything unusual. I thought you meant physical damage to the working wires. Some cars have 3 wires on the ETS others have 2. Looks like that unused pin is simply insulated off
Ok back to the plan. Look for damaged wires from the ETS to the ECU

Okay so I went out and checked the two wires as far as I could (they go into black tubing) and they seem to be fine.
Would a battery being low cause an issue? this is really frustrating!
