Hi

Need help on identifying a problem with my PUG, exhaust has been throaty/noisy, after having the middle and back section of my 2000 (W) Roland Garros, Peugeot 206 1.4i automatic; exhaust replaced. I took it back three times, to the garage as it was nosiy and they said there was no problem with the exhaust. It now sounds like a motor bike after about travelling 10 miles. When you press the accellerator pedal, you can hear and feel it blowing/tapping through the steering column/wheel. I took it back again last week and the dealer now says it could be cat, injectors or blocked filter. I had plugs done and its still the same, he says it is only sparking on three cylenders and says it could be the cat or injectors. I have read that the no 4 injector is usually the likely culprit. Has anyone experienced this problem before and know a solution or know how to diagnose the likely problem? Also can anybody tell me the type of petrol injectors i would need to buy; if this is the problem. Thanks in advance. Sad

It now sounds like a motor bike after about travelling 10 miles.
I'm thinking that if it was the exhaust then it would sound the same before and after 10miles so "sounds like a motorbike" I'm guessing you mean it is misfiring and sounds like a 4 stroke motorbike but you don't say anything about a serious lack of performance which would happen if it was misfiring or any engine fault warning.

Is it just on tickover or when accelerating or both? It's always difficult to diagnose sounds so can you post up a video to U tube perhaps?

Hi, many thanks for your reply. I have arthritic hands so wouldnt be able to do a video, sorry....Its when accelerating after stopping at lights etc that it sounds like a motor bike, when i get over 50mph, its hardly noticeable. Also no noticable lack of performance, just the motorbike tic tic noise and slight vibration in steering column/wheel when accelerating. Sports mode also working as normal. I am thinking of getting a mechanic to look at the injector and see if that resolves the problem, howeever, dont want to waste money if its something else causing the problem. Does my pug have 16v petrol injectors fitted in a 8/11/2000 Roland Garros auto 206 1.4i? Might be able to get some cheap ones on ebay.

Very difficult to advise on noises but
If it was only firing on 3 cylinders then you would have a very noticeable decrease in performance
A cat won't cause a misfire
A bad injector could cause a misfire but again you would have noticeable power loss
An air filter won't cause it to fire on 3 cylinders unless it was absolutely choked

A good mechanic should be able to determine whether you have a bad injector or not without having to buy another one.
