We have the same problem only it cuts out after loosing power.

Engine management light come on?

I'm thinking its the coil pack.

Not sure on the MOT front though

The only way I can see a car failing it's MOT with a 'spluttering' engine is if it affects the emissions.

Even though the EML isnt on, there may be codes stored, Ive got a basic code reader that may do the job!
I know my cars spluttering atm, suspected to be coilpack!

Hmm... Maybe i was wrong, the pug just blew her head gasket today lol probably the problems we were having had something to do with it leaking a bit, oil press. loss or something. or possibly coil packs out too and it was all just a not so happy coincidence

doubt your's will be the same
