I have a Peugeot 206 1.4hdi van 2005. When I pull up and put the van into neutral there is a spinning noise that is coming from the gearbox. If I put my foot on the clutch and then release the noise goes away.It doesn't always do this and has only recently started to happen. It has happened 3 times so far all within 4 days of each other Does this sound like the clutch release bearing has gone?

If you posted this a month ago, I would have saved a shitload of money from:
complete gearbox overhaul, replacement clutch kit, labour costs, fights with mech.

Now I'll have to fully update my recent problem thread ( www.206info.co.uk/Foru...art=0.html ) and all the other threads trying to track-down the problem. It turns out my noise was caused by mis-aligned input shaft onto the friction disk causing play and chatter, exactly as stated in the above document. Found this-out just yesterday.

so the clutchman wasn't doing the job properly then. glad you finally get it sorted

Actually, clutch was fitted perfect. - Twice.
The problem was the bolt guide bushes (collars) between engine and gearbox were distorted,
so when the gearbox is fitted, it is not perfectly aligned (input shaft) with the disk and
consequently the flywheel > crankshaft.

So after a while the disk springs (marcels) and the yoke get stressed and start making a clicking/chatter noise.

Worst part was replacement guides were included in the MA overhaul kit, but we did not use
all of them (on the engine-gearbox join).. Gutted.

Well-sneaky and it drove me nuts until I got to the bottom of it.
Still have not recovered in every way. Sad
