new to the French scene, so still getting use to the car, but no matter what settings I seem to put the demist to, I am still left with a thin line of mist along the bottom of the windscreen. any suggestions as to what I should be putting the setting to, to get rid of it. Rest of the windscreen is clear.

heaters are blowing hot, everything including the AC seems to be working, just think I might be missing something in the set up, which is leaving this small strip along the bottom.

not on recycled air, good point about the AC as I don't know when it was last serviced so probably worth doing that.

AIR FLOW
Have you cleaned out the cabin air filter? That will severely restrict new air flow.

A/C
Is the A/C actually working well and making it cold in the cabin? If it is then it won't be that causing problems

DIRECTION
When you select front screen demist is the air being blown up there significantly strongly?

HEAT
if you turn the A/C off, select higher temps and turn the fan speed up does it clear it then?

Give the windscreen a good clean. Maybe some residue left on there from last time it was cleaned, or may just be grimey.
If that still doesn't work, go to Halfords and buy Rain-x anti mist. You can get better products from motoerbike shops but Halfords is usually the most accessible.

It's not difficult but make a note how you remove it to help you refit it
