Hi there,

About 4 weeks ago I had an intermittent occurrance when I used my indicator sometimes my headlights would come on at the same time, even though I hadn't turned the light column. They would then go off just as randomly without any prompting from me. When I do turn my lights on I never have have problems with them at all. Now in the last week this same fault occurs but now with a power dip, that lasts about a second. I'm just a bit worried something is getting worse & could leave me stuck. I would appreciate any help or advice.

Many thanks

Earthing problem or stalk at fault

More likely earthing as you have a coms unit (i think)

Thanks for your reply Addaz, could you give any pointers as to where I'm likely to find this earth fault? Or is something for a garage?

Many thanks

Spoke to Garage today as my MOT is due up and he thought it sounded like a stalk fault (although he hadn't heard of the power dipping before) said it would be around £200.00! Is this any easy job to replace yourself - has anyone tried it. Be grateful to hear any info

Many thanks

I would go with the earth first..

I have the same car (2003) and mine has had 2 or 3 problems regarding the earthing

From memory the points are under each headlight, passenger sill under the carpet, under the dash on driver side, on gearbox and in the boot on the passenger side behind the carpet try giving them a clean with emery paper

Lee can get hold of the stalks too if you PM him, they aren't hard to change it's the part price when new that does the damage

Thanks for all the really helpful advice ...I think I'll try the earth first.

Just to clarify "the points", is this where the earth wire is fixed to the bodywork of the car with a spade type connection? Antknee mentioned one of the points being gearbox - how would I find that one?

Thanks again for all you advice - I might get a chance to start this this afternoon
