My 206 (03 plate 1.6 XSI) has recently developed two noises. I have searched and there are a number of posts but they are either different or those that are similar don’t seem to have been resolved, so any input greatly appreciated:

The first is a squeak/chirp sound that occurs anywhere between 3.5-5k revs it happens when driving in gear or stationary in neutral and with the clutch in or out. It doesn’t happen with the engine off. The weirdest bit of all though is that it only seems to be audible inside the car and sounds as though it is coming from passenger/glovebox area (see video and audio below – you can hear it the last two times it revs past 4k)

I have checked aux and cambelt, as it sounds slightly like a belt straining, but no noise and no sign of problems. Checked exhaust flexi joint and springs but no sign of problems or noise. The car drives fine no obvious loss of power etc – just a horrible feeling that the noise is indicating something is going to let go…

The second noise, which may or may not be related to the above, is a clunking that I am pretty sure is coming from the front. It occurs over bumps at relatively low speed and when slowing/braking etc.

I have checked all of exhaust, removed spare wheel and retaining cage, checked rear suspension, check all wheels and no sign of play, drop links look pretty new and track rod ends seem ok. I think the culprit is possibly top mounts or wishbones, but can’t be sure as no matter what I try can’t seem to recreate any clunking/play – really just based assumption on condition (see photos below). Anyone know a good way to test these parts?

Wondering if the two noises might be related though?

Thanks

Check the ball joints on the end of the wishbones. Try pulling on them to see if their is any play, with the wheels on the floor if possible.

Rob thanks for the reply, couldn't find any play in the wishbones at all. So took it to a local garage today and they are pretty sure it is the nearside drop link. Will replace and hopefully that will cure it.

Of course today it wouldn't make the squeak sound at all so couldn't get an opinion on that.
