Hi,

I've had my 137 GTi about a week now and have noticed a few of the common faults that come with them.

Now I've done the whole search thing but this doesn't bring up any solid answer althought I do appreciate there is always more than one answer or reason to a fault.

Anyway,

The few mornings from cold it switched to limp mode when I was letting it warm up before leaving for work. It threw up the cat convertor warning and anit pollution warning. I had to switch the car on and off a few times to get it cleared. The anti pollution light will still come on especially from a cold start. there is a PiperX cone on it at the minute and I do not have the standard airbox. Am I right in saying this could be an issue?

Not so sure on the cat warning though and was leaning towards a lambda sensor as it only happens from cold and I know most lambdas have a heater which can pack in over time, hence why the fault does not show when the car is warmed up. Any ideas or opinions?

The dreaded airbag light. The connectors under the passenger seat have been chopped and crimped together, so this fix has been done before. The same on the drivers seat with the group of 3 wires fixed but a seperate group of 2 going to a plug not connected to anything.

The drivers seat will not lock in place. I have seen this before on other cars and it was something to do with the tilt/slide cables that let you access the back seats...

AS said I only have the car a week and it will be getting a good service in the next week or so but if anyone could shine some light on the most common causes of these issues I'd be really grateful!

Cheers

Damien

I would test the lambda sensors first and if its not them its the CAT. As for the airbag wires make sure they are wired up correctly. Someone else will be able to help you on that one I don't have seat airbags. Try a search again, if you order the results in "post time" you probably won't find anything that filter is a bit crap.

I have an airbox in my garage if you'd like.

Have you tested the battery? My gti brought up the airbag fault and anti pollution when the charge was low.

And as for the sliders there is a small peice of metal missing from the runner that keeps the memory for the seat (so it goes back when you have finished accessing the rear) your best bet is to get the bit from the breakers, from Peugeot they are about £50 iirc the bit your missing is not sold separately by them.

And Hi BTW Waving o/

Had this recently with the seat mate when getting the seats out for a good clean before the weather broke, noticed a wire had broke by being caught in the runners ones for the air bag other for the seat belt warning alarm pink and off white from memory for the seat belt warning thankfully the air bag wires didnt get caught, if that help you out, and yeah check you got the clip / stop in the runner for the seat the lock againt and keep the seat position memory

PM me a price posted please. I'm in N.Ireland but there should be no difference for UK postage with Parcel Force or Royal Mail.

Thanks for the replies. I will be getting into it this weekend so fingers crossed I get a bit further forward.

Some 206's have a seatbelt warning light for the driver & its normally a white plug with 2 wires.

Not all 206's have the buckle sensor fitted even if the wiring is there on the cabin loom.

That makes sense. I'll have to do a bit of investigation work on the wires.

It seems as though my cat warning light has stopped coming on. This could be partly due to the previous owner's rather tame driving. Sometimes a bit of redlining can work wonders. I am still getting the occasional anti pollution warning but am hoping switching to standard airbox and decent panel filter will sort it out.

Did it do a lot of short journeys?

Get it code read.

Crimps on the connectors for the airbags are common on a lot of cars, infact most solder them these days.

I'm not sure tbh. I have a feeling it was/still is partly coked up although I'm sure I have blew a lot of it out over the past few days. I'm going to run a tin of carb cleaner through the intake to help things along.

The airbag connectors have been crimped already so someone has fixed the problem before. That was the first thing I looked for. I'm holding off getting it plugged in just yet due to the expense and was hoping a bit of diy fault checking would lead me to the source.
