Hi all
Trying to change clutch in my gf's 1999 1.1, I have stripped all ancillary parts I think I need to & removed all but 1 of the gearbox bolts. However the box REALLY doesnt want to part company with the engine. It seemed to be seized on 1 of the locating dowels at the bottom but having got it loosened there it still isnt moving enough. I thought that the extension/intermediate shaft on the drivers side would just slide out allowing me to remove the box. If this not the case, do I need to remove the 2 bolts securing the OS driveshaft to the centre bearing? Thanks in advance

So does the intermediate shaft just stay attached to the gearbox when you take the box off?

you can leave drivers side drive shaft in and when the gearbox pulls off engine it will pop out, (how i did my 1.4 box)

there are some locating lugs thing that were proper tight on my 1.6 one i did today, made the gearbox a git to get off. can only see them when gearbox is out, there to help line it up when putting on.

have you taken out the bolt near starter motor? it goes in from engine side i didnt know that one was there 1st time i attempted it, Laughing

Intermediate? Talk slow please, im a bit shagged tbh

The long one? They both need to be removed along with the starter

There is 4 or 5 allen 8mm bolts and then the start with three 13mm's

The exhaust bolt on the down pipe and possibley the lower cover protecting the flywheel if it has one

Lol Smile Ive stripped the passenger side suspension & driveshaft.
Battery, battery mount & gearbox mount are removed. Starter is off. All bar 1 gearbox bolts are out (including the 1 that also holds the exhaust hanger).
When i said 'intermediate shaft' I meant the extension shaft on the drivers side that goes between the actual driveshaft & the gearbox - is this 'fixed' into the gearbox somehow?

Edit - I only found 3 8mm allen bolts + 1 13mm hex on the exhaust hanger - Ive had a good look & cant see any more :-/

Yeah thanks Ben I took all 3 bolts out round the starter, forgot to include that 1 in my count because it was out before I actually started removing the other gearbox bolts. The box seems free enough at the top, it actually seems to be underneath where its stuck so Im wondering if it is just seized on another locating lug/pin/dowel whatever you want to call it. I did assume I could get the box off & leave the OS driveshaft in place
