got car running weekend, fitted new headgasket and had head skimmed. due to headgasket had gone when i got it.

only problem now is when it was running today looked into the the header tank and it had a horrible top layer.........

my question is..... is possible its just residue left in the system / radiator ? car came with no water in it, probably due to the radiator has leaks as i found out today Laughing

here is a pic of the oil on the dipstick looks fine to me (minus the bit of dirt on there somehow Laughing ) ????????

thanks

ben Very Happy

It could be all the crap that has built up yes. Seen as it has a leak that will be why the gasket has gone it was most likely run dry.

Its most likely all the crap that was left in the system once it had dried out, stuff like rust etc

Did running the car presurize the expansion tank, if not id say system is sealed and possibly ok, what colour is the inside of the oild filler cap, if not white yucky, again a good sign that the oil system is clean. Certainly looks clean from dipstick, so I think its probably is residue. Drain water and flush and refill, and obviously keep an eye on it

Give the cooling system a good flush out then some fresh coolant.

A couple of NON bio washing powder / dishwasher tablets or a decent scoop cleans out cooling systems brilliantly.

It MUST be NON bio! Wink

Clear it out as others have said and see if it comes back.

Flush the system a few times to get it as clean as possible, its unlikely that it will all ever come out, but to get as much out as you think is possible should be fine.
